Midwives

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Community Health Network is resolute in our dedication to the health of our expecting mothers and babies. We understand that you have many questions about your delivery plan, visitor restrictions and post-delivery care. Jill Kocher, certified nurse midwife at Community, explains what you need to know in this video. You'll find the video and more on our Health Minute blog.

COVID-19: What Pregnant Women Need to Know

If you want an approach to delivery that focuses on minimal intervention you may be interested in a midwife.

Midwives give care to women with normal pregnancies and deliveries, collaborating with obstetricians or specialists if complications develop. Midwives concentrate on communication with the pregnant mom and focus on the needs of the family with special attention to cultural values and personal preferences. Midwifery is a professionally regulated field.

Midwife Services

Community's certified nurse-midwives (CNM) provide reproductive education in fertility, nutrition, exercise, contraception, pregnancy health, breastfeeding, and quality infant care.

Women can also receive the same services from our midwives that they would typically receive from an OB/GYN physician such as:

  • Annual gynecological exams
  • Family planning
  • Preconception care
  • Prenatal care
  • Labor and delivery care
  • Menopausal management

Benefits of Using a Midwife

One of the main reasons women decide to choose a midwife is to experience childbirth as naturally as possible. Additional benefits of midwifery care can include:

  • Lower costs for patients
  • Increased satisfaction with quality of care
  • More personalized care
  • More time dedicated to breastfeeding techniques
  • Reduced rates of induction
  • Reduced need for regional anesthesia
